The show portrays Jake, the most recent bachelor, to be the perfect man; the one any woman would dream to be with. However, how can the women actually know before they meet and get to know him? Also, it is incredible how they all do fall in love with him, no matter how long they get to know him or despite their various personalities. How can we believe this is how love actually is?
Yet, large groups of girls, even at TWU, gather each Monday night in order to watch this man choose who he will propose to at the end of the season. We all compare and tell each other what he does right and wrong. However, we never seem to notice that each couple sleeps together before he makes his final decision.
I have realized now how the media fogs our vision and how we often do not even notice that we have lost our sight. However, I hope to be more cautious and aware of what I allow to be forced into my mind. I believe that we, especially as Christians, must keep each other accountable to this and be weary of what we see to be truth.
I find this to be a very interesting topic as well, and I wrote my critique on the same idea but more geared towards movies. Hollywood seems to do a very good job of shaping what love should look like, and i think that we do actually get very influenced by it because we see it all around us.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very important topic for me as well. All I can say is there are some movies out there who do a good portrayal on REAL life love. For example Little Black Book (starring Brittany Murphy), and (500)Days of Summer as well as a movie like A lot LIke Love. - They are all must sees if you feel the media has sucked you into a false reality of what real life and love is about.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. We watch so much without even paying any attention to what our minds are consuming. Plus it doesn't help that the stuff we watch is so addicting!! It is so hard to start watching a show like The Bachelor and not continue watching the season to see how it turns out.
ReplyDeleteMost definatley agree the media does skew our idea of love. But to be completely honest, what sells? The truth doesn't or at least not the every day normal truth. The perfect couple, the drama, the cat fights and as any beer commercial would tell you sex sells.
ReplyDeleteDo most producers give too much thought to what message they are sending? Only if it affects the bottom line.
