At the beginning of this class I was not a fan of peer reviewing or critiquing other people's writing. Primarily, because I was afraid, afraid of looking stupid, like a bad writer. Looking like I had no idea what I was doing. I quickly learned that I firstly needed to trust myself with the abilities I do have in writing and secondly needed to realize everyone has different parts of writing that is a challenge.
Now at the end of the semester going through many peer-critiquing classes, I realize that it is not scary at all! I had nothing to be worried about. Peer editing is a learning experience, each and every time you do it. It makes you a better writer from hearing the feedback of your peers and by reading other’s work I learned different ways to go about writing. It is an eye opening experience the more and more you edit the more aware you get for little grammar things or framing an argument.
Even though sometimes it was not the most fun, I enjoyed all the peer reviews that happened throughout the class. It truly made me a better more in tune writer! It takes a good writer or (experienced writer) to know a good writer. It all comes with surrounding yourself with the writing environment a.k.a. critiquing groups, and writing a lot. The more you edit the better you get!
