If I were to merely take one thing from this course it ought to be that I need to work on giving myself more time to do more thorough research. Far too often, I find myself scrambling for research topics at the last minute, trying to construct persuasive arguments out of the most vague and superfluous material.
Working with Bill Badke’s book, Research Strategies, I have really come to realize the truth in the saying, “Doing the research is half the battle.” And, I know that I am not alone. As University students striving for the best experience possible within these campus grounds, often, we don’t make the best decisions in regards to time management. We will put off our research papers for as long as we can in order to be social and have fun until that last day approaches, when we will work as hard and as fast as we can just to hand “something” in; and, when it is done, it is done – we don’t think about it anymore.
By working through revisions of the same papers over and over again, along with the required research assignments, I was able to realize something very intriguing about research – it can actually be fun. I found that by doing concise research and acquiring information that was actually structured around my exact topic, I not only ended up learning a lot more, but I actually began to get excited about my argument. By the end of the course I concluded that doing research is not all that bad, as long as you actually take the time to do it. You just have to make the time, and do it!
Very true. More often than not I will find myself scrambling for research last minute. Ensuring that my ideas will not be fully thought out and that the essay will end up being written last minute even if I did give myself time because I was so discouraged with the reasearch.
