My Mush Outline

There are so many “little hurdles” when it comes to gathering thoughts for the written word. In chapter 21 Murray has a great way of putting them all into “Shoptalk”. I was never a fan of outlines and actually found it much easier to just write, preferably type. The problem being that what I did this way, looked like a copy of my thoughts on the subject thrown onto the page. Resulting in, well, many remarks on the need for organization.

This past year I've learned to value organization. I can't say that I can make a detailed outline and stick to it. If I try this I tend to include the points that I originally started with simply because so much work had been put into them. This meant that I would leave out better points because there had been less work done to acquire them. Stubborn? Possibly, and in a very strange way also lazy.

Then I found that the more interested I was in the topic being written on the more I would think about it. And in turn think in a logical succinct way. Points would flow from one another, not always clearly but unfortunately I don't have the power to change my thought patterns. But these words on paper became sentences and ideas. Which I prefer much over mush.
